Ingredients

  • 20 grams of sugar

  • 7 grams of dry yeast

  • 400 grams of all purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon of salt

  • 100 milliliters of warm water

  • 100 milliliters of lukewarm milk

  • 1 egg, medium size

  • 50 grams of melted butter

  • 100 milliliters of water

  • 1 tablespoon of grape molasses

  • 1 tablespoon of all purpose flour

  • 60 grams of sesame seeds

Directions

  • Combine the sugar, yeast, flour and salt in a bowl and mix. Add the warm water, lukewarm milk, egg and melted butter. Knead until a smooth and elastic dough forms.

    Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 50 minutes until it doubles in size.

    Tip: you can use the Kitchen machine or hand mixer with the dough hook attachment for kneading.

  • Once doubled in size, divide the dough into six equal pieces, shape them into balls and let rest for another 10 minutes.

  • When rested, roll each ball into a strand about 50 cm long. Lay two pieces parallel to each other and twist them together in opposite directions to make a rope-like braid. Pinch the two ends together to make a ring.

    Repeat with the remaining strands. You should get three rings in total, each about 15 cm in diameter.

  • Combine the water, molasses and flour and mix well. Brush each ring with the prepared molasses mixture and dip it in sesame seeds.
    Cover with a damp cloth and let rise for another 20 minutes.

  • Put one simit in the basket and slide it into the Airfryer. Start the device with 190°C 7 minute.
    Bake in three batches.

  • Once done, transfer the simits to a cooling rack and let cool completely before serving.
